A equipe Rugger é uma exploração, pesquisa planetária e força defensiva. A Terra está em um momento de prosperidade. O Presidente da Liga Terrana lança uma missão para explorar a galáxia e construir um mapa completo das estrelas. Logo depois de iniciar a missão, a equipe Rugger e sua nave estrela, a guarda rugger, são atacados pelo Império Galveston. O Dairugger, o super robô, deve defender o guarda do rugger e sua frota enquanto tentam continuar sua missão. Quando Galveston se recusa repetidamente a aceitar a coexistência pacífica, sua missão se transforma em encontrar o mundo natal de Galveston, libertando seu povo de seu imperador despótico e ajudando -os a encontrar um novo planeta antes que seu mundo colapse.
